Vilnius – Altay – Bicycle – Eco Trip
This is a first of series of articles about a group of 6 Lithuanians who will travel by bicycles all month around the remote Russian region called the Republic of Altay inside of Siberian Federal district. It is one of the most rarely populated places in Russia with the average of 2.2 people living in a square kilometre.
The main purpose is to travel through mountains, forests, crossing freezing streams, sleeping in tents and cycling without any outside help or support vehicle. Actually there will not be any help. Travellers will have to trust only on one another to make it through.
The whole group consists only of people, who love cycling and who want to share their passion with the rest of the world. No one pays them to do this and there will be no grand prize waiting for them in the end – just a satisfactory thought that maybe – just maybe – they will inspire others to experience life first hand. Even if it is a small step, like once in a while taking a bike to work or going for cycling on a weekend.
