Hundreds of Expectant Mothers Gathered in Vilnius, Lithuania
The 7th traditional expectant mothers’ gathering was held in Vilnius, Lithuania on May 23rd. The event attracted 400 participants and is thought to be one of the largest expectant mothers’ celebrations in Europe.
“Parenthood is not just a duty or responsibility. It is, first and foremost, an excellent school for adults who have chosen this way of life,” said Agne Zuokiene, who is the author of the idea and organiser of the event. She is also a Member of Parliament and the mother of three children.
A concert was held for the participants. An expectant mothers’ choir appeared on stage as well.
“I wish that every family in Vilnius would have at least two children. It would be even better if they had three,” noted Arturas Zuokas, who is the Mayor of Vilnius and the husband of Agne Zuokiene.
The festive concert was followed by the first annual Family Craft Fair at Vilnius Town Hall Square where mothers and fathers, currently on parental leave, presented various craft items made by themselves as well as their services and ideas.
The joy of motherhood is celebrated worldwide in various gatherings of mothers to be, flashmobs and events. However, the Vilnius gathering is unique in its constant and ever broader support and the number of events that take place as a part of the celebration.
